Haul # 6: JULY 2013

It’s haul time! I’ve been very VERY excited for this and I have been saving my money since last month. My friend, Fem, told me that her mom, Tita Yda, was coming home to the Philippines this July. Their family is currently based in London. So I took the opportunity and asked Fem if she could buy me a few stuff from their drugstore and have Tita Yda bring the items to me. I was so happy when I got the products. I was able to save a lot of money because I didn’t have to pay for the mark-ups that resellers have and the shipping as well. I will tell you guys more about the prices as we go along. Let’s start, shall we?

My buys are from Superdrug, a very popular drugstore in the UK which I think is a rival of Boots, also a drugstore. If you’re wondering, drugstores in other countries especially in the US and UK, carry cosmetic products unlike the ones you would normally see in the Philippines. In the US or UK, when people refer to drugstore makeup, it means cheaper makeup being sold at the drugstore.

I want to start with the products from a brand called Sleek Makeup. It’s a UK-based brand which is why I wanted to buy its products. I wanted to buy from a UK and not US-based brand because US brands tend to be a lot more expensive in the UK. Sleek is very popular because of its inexpensive but high quality products. Sleek is known for its pigmented blushes and eye shadows. The packaging of pretty much all their products is very true to its name. Even the boxes are classy.

Sleek Blush By 3; GBP 9.99 or PHP 664

The first product is the Blush by 3 in Lace which obviously has 3 different blush colors: Chantilly, Guipure and Crochet. It contains 20 grams of product all-in-all for GBP 9.99 or about PHP 664. It’s very compact and portable. As you can see in the picture, it has a decent sized mirror which I love. Sleek does have more Blush by 3s but I like this one better because it has more wearable colors. This palette has more orange-toned colors.

Colors were blended out; (L-R: Chantilly, Guipure, Crochet)
Chantilly is the most orangey one out of all the colors. Guipure is the only shimmery blush in this palette. It’s a little difficult to describe and the camera doesn’t do it justice. The base is pink but it has orange and gold shimmers in it. It’s so attractive when applied on the cheeks because it catches the light very well. I’d probably use this more as a highlighter. The last shade is Crochet which is a dark peachy-orange color. I tried this blush once and I was shocked at how pigmented it was. You would definitely only need a little if you want a more natural look.

Sleep Au Naturel Palette; GBP 7.99 or PHP 531

Next is one of Sleek’s i-Divine palettes which is Au Naturel. This is a mineral based eye shadow palette. The packaging is beautiful and very sleek. It costs GBP 7.99 or PHP 531, a lot cheaper than the blush palette. It’s bigger than the Blush by 3 of course. I did expect it to be a lot bigger. Each eye shadow is almost the size of a PHP 25 centavo coin but that’s okay. This palette has 12 colors, 8 are matte and the rest are shimmery. It comes with a good mirror, dual sponge applicator and a sheet that contains the names of the shades.

SWATCHES: Top (L-R: Nougat, Nubuck, Cappuccino, Honeycomb, Toast, Taupe)
Bottom (L-R: Conker, Moss, Bark, Mineral Earth, Regal, Noir)

I’m not sure what it is with lighter shades but they hardly ever show up on my skin. I had the same problem with my NYX Natural palette. But I found this palette to be a whole lot better. The shadows are very creamy and are more pigmented than the NYX Natural palette. The colors on the top row are light ones and as I’ve mentioned, they don’t show up pretty well on my skin. Taupe however is my favorite in the top row. It’s a very beautiful shimmery shade. The colors at the bottom are darker shades and are much pigmented. Regal is a little bit difficult to work with but it’s tolerable. My favorite shade is Mineral Earth which is a dark metallic brown shade. Overall, I love this palette.

The next products are also by a UK-based company, Rimmel London. Rimmel is very popular in the US and UK because they also sell very good quality products for a cheaper price. Among their popular lines are the Rimmel Scandaleyes (Scandalize), Wake Me Up and Apocalips (Apocalypse).

30 ml; GBP 6.99 or PHP 465

First up is the Fix & Perfect Pro Primer in 002. It says it smoothens, resurfaces, brightens, mattifies and protects. It contains 1 fluid ounce or 30 ml for GBP 6.99 or PHP 465. I did try it just once but I haven’t really noticed a significant difference in my skin. I also don’t think that it mattifies. But I have yet to see. I wanted this because Emily of emilynoel83 on YouTube said that this is a good drugstore primer.

GBP 4.99 or PHP 332

The last products are these lipsticks also from Rimmel which are part of the Kate Moss collection. I’m not sure what the difference of the two lipsticks is and why they have different packaging. I originally picked the Sleek True Color lipsticks but the shades I wanted were out of stock. I wanted a more wearable shade but although the ones I have are bolder and in-your-face kind of shades, I could still see myself wearing them. Each lipstick costs GBP 4.99 or PHP 332.

No. 111 Kiss of Life
No. 20

L-R: No. 20, No. 111

The first shade is called Kiss of Life no. 111. This is a deep vintage kind of red which also has a slight hint of orange to it. The next one is no. 20, it doesn’t have a name. I love this shade! On the tube, it looks like the Barbie kind of pink but when applied on the lips, the color becomes slightly darker. It’s the kind of color that lightens up my face and it’s just so girly.

Bare lips
No. 20
No. 111

These I think are matte, I’m not sure. But if they are, oh my gosh, they’re amazing! They’re not drying like other matte lipsticks are. As far as longevity is concerned, I can’t really tell but I will do a more in depth review if I get the chance. They do have a smell but it’s not too irritating and is still tolerable.

Overall, I am very satisfied and happy with the stuff I bought. They total for about GBP 34.95 or PHP 2323 but Fem gave the two Kate lipsticks to me for free so I just paid her PHP 1500 which is a total steal! I cannot thank you enough Fem and Tita Yda! I am a happy girl. :D

If you guys are wondering where to buy Sleek products, Digital Traincase also sells them for relatively cheap prices. I haven’t tried to shop for Rimmel items on online stores yet so I can’t tell you where to buy them. I will update soon!

That’s it for my monthly haul!
